Today I am craving for vegetables! I will be sharing with you my Chop Suey recipe. Chop Suey is a classic recipe originally Chinese but has been improvised and adapted by Filipinos. The Americans also claimed that this is their creation and not at all an authentic Chinese recipe.It is usually made up of a variety of vegetables and pork cooked in a flavorful sauce. The recipe generally calls for pork but it can also be cooked with beef or chicken, it depends on your preference
I cooked this delectable treat tonight for dinner and I decided to share my own version of my favorite vegetable dish.
- 1 pound pork cut into very thin pieces
- ½ cup of peeled small shrimp (optional but it really gives the dish more flavor)
- 5 tbsp chicken broth ( you can also use the commercially prepared chicken broth cubes)
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 cup cauliflower sliced in small pieces
- ½ cup thin sliced mushroom, fresh ones preffered but there are a lot of available mushrooms in can.
- 1 large green or red bell pepper
- 1 medium size carrots cut into thin pieces
- 2 stalkes of celery
- ½ piece medium sized cabbage, squared
- 1½ cup water
- 1 cup snow peas
- ½ cup onion sliced
- 1 tsp garlic
- Saute the garlic and the onion in a wok until it is well done
- Add the thin slices of pork and cook until it is light brown, add the shrimps and mix until its color turns to orange.
- Add the water and chicken broth and let it boil, then simmer for about 3 minutes
- Add the oyster sauce and simmer for about a minute.
- Put all the other ingredients like the cabbage, bell pepper, cauliflower, snow peas, celery and carrots, cover the wok and let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes until all the vegetables are cooked.
- Add the mushrooms, simmer for about 2 minutes
- Dilute the cornstarch on ¼ cup of hot water and pour it in the wok. Mix well.
- Serve and enjoy!!
